Choosing an Online Video Game Rental Service

by Clark Cassidy

With game consoles in the $300-600 dollar range and the average video game costing about $60 bucks, it is easy to understand why everyone has turned their backs on buying games and are now instead renting them online.
There are nothing but benefits when renting video games online; you get to keep the games for as long as you want, you pay a small monthly fee, you have the latest and greatest games available at the click of the button, and for the cost of one game you can have an entire year subscription to the leading video game rental services!
However, not everything is all cake and ice cream. Not every single video game rental service is for everyone. We have services that can let you rent out only one game a month, good for the leisure gamer and we have a few who let people rent three games out a month for the extreme gamer. In this article I will go over what to look for in a video game rental service so you can find the service best for your dollar! The first thing you need to look for when choosing a video game rental club is to see if they offer games for your console. Not all companies support all consoles.
So if you have a PS3 don’t go sign up for an online video game rental club that offers Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii games exclusively. This is especially important if you have a handheld device (Nintendo DS, PSP, Nintendo Advanced, ETC.) because only a chosen few support and have games for these consoles for you to rent.

The second thing you need to look for is plans. Most video game rental companies have plans ranging from one video game out at a time to three video games out at a time (although there are a few who have four that are allowed out at a time).

So if you are a casual gamer, as in you play whenever you have free time and want to relax then you should probably go with a cheaper deal and only get a plan that allows one game out a month. If you are more of an avid gamer then a better service for you would be two to three video games allowed out a time (which of course will cost a bit more).

The third and final thing you need to look for is to see if they offer a free trial. Before you make any commitments to any online video game rental company you need to make sure their service is for you. Sign up for a free trial, place a few games for them to send and see how you like it. This is important for a few reasons. If you sign up for a trial for a company based in Pennsylvania and you are in California it might take a few days more to get to you compared to one that is located closer to home, but then again it might be cheaper. I recommend trying out at least three rental services before making a commitment to any single one.

That’s it! Easy as that! If you follow those guidelines when picking out a game rental service, then you will be on your way to gaming in NO time!

Why use game cheats on the Nintendo wii?

Author : Mark Dale

cheatingGame cheats for the Nintendo Wii are becoming increasing popular, but is this a good or a bad thing? Let’s explore the reasons behind using cheat codes for the Wii so can decide for yourself if you should use them.

The Nintendo Wii game console was created for people that were growing increasingly alienated by the complicated game play and instructions for the newer video games. In many occasions, video games have turned into movie like sequences where the player was allowed to only perform limited tasks. In these types of games all of the imagination, skill, and fun had been removed from the games.

What the big games console manufacturers say is state of the art, others say are big steps backwards in the gameplay arena. Nintendo however have solved many of these problems by bringing interactivity and simplicity back to the gaming market. Nintendo actually took the level of gaming interactivity to be something much bigger and better than anyone every expected.

Never before outside of an arcade have people become so involved in video game play and never before have people been forced to get off their armchairs to play video games. However, it was without surprise that this new revolution would soon get flooded by Wii game cheats for all those that wanted them.

So what are Wii cheat codes?

A cheat code is a special sequence of controller buttons or characters that you can use to alter the game you are playing. Entering a code will provide you with special features or abilities in a game. This allows you to cheat your way through a level, or gain special abilities, such as unlimited ammo or unlimited lives.

Why game cheats can be a bad thing

It’s a fact that cheating can take a lot of the fun out of video gaming and people that create or use the Wii cheat codes are usually those that miss the point of video games.

Playing Wii games is all about the interaction and skills of the player, so to use cheats to try and get an artificial advantage just to finish the game sooner is something that most gamers will not do. Why? Because it can ruin the game by taking the challenge and fun out of it for the player(s) involved.

If you use cheats for this reason then you will simply miss out on many of the things that the Wii was built to do. Also, don’t forget that by cheating you will finish a game sooner which means you are wasting money on your games.

Game Cheats do have their benefits…

Have you ever been stuck on a level of game and no matter how hard you try you just cannot get to the next level? In these circumstances, a cheat code can be the only option. You may only be 20% into a game and just about given up on it. However, using a cheat code can get you to the next level allowing you to get much more game play than otherwise possible.

Do You Really Need To Cheat?

Wii video games are designed with player interaction in mind, so cheating to get an unfair advantage is kind of missing the point. It really makes no sense to start punching in cheat codes just for the sake of it, because by removing the skill and interaction from a game you have nothing left.

I would recommend you avoid cheat codes for the Wii, unless you really struggle to get through a level and need a bit of help. You should always try and play the games the way they were meant to be played and cheating just for the sake of it takes most of the fun away.

From Atari to Wii: The Boom in Gaming

The growth in gaming has been exponential, and with new developments in gaming, the growth will continue to soar. This makes gaming more than a lot of fun; it makes it a perfect industry in which to pursue a career. Many colleges, like Westwood College Online, even offer online degrees in gaming as a great way to jump start a career in this ever-changing field. Understanding the gaming industry today means going back to when the first video game was pioneered. In 1952, a man named A.S. Douglas decided to experiment with a new invention called a “computer,” an incredibly advanced concept in the 1950s. Unintentionally, he created the first video game, called Noughts and Crosses. It ran on a huge computer called the E.D.S.A.C., and although no one actually played it, it paved the way for a little known programmer named Nolan Bushnell. Nolan Bushnell went on to start Atari. Bushnell himself is responsible for today’s huge video game industry, making billions of dollars every year. This is the long-wound history of today’s booming video game industry. The Start of Atari

In 1972, a little known programmer named Nolan Bushnell left his work as a programmer for Nutting Associates, a pre-Atari video game system that he thought was not functional. Finding the Odyssey uninteresting, Bushnell left the company and started his own company. Bushnell first settled on the name Syzygy. Unfortunately for Bushnell, that name was already taken by a roofing company, so he named it Atari.

After Atari became the official name, Bushnell hired Al Alcorn to program games for Atari. Alcorn was inexperienced, so Bushnell assigned him to program a simple tennis game. This game was named Pong. After its release, Atari became a household name.

Nintendo Steps In

In 1981, a new video game company called Nintendo released a new video gamed called Donkey Kong, after having previous failures with mediocre arcade games. Shigeru Miyamoto designed Donkey Kong, a big brown ape. He needed to create a protagonist, so he created an overall-wearing plumber called Mario, named after the company’s landowner, Mario Segali. Donkey Kong explodes into arcades and everyone demands more of this limber plumber. They get their wish.

Nintendo’s Golden Age

In 1986, after testing it out with test audiences, Nintendo released a 2-D platform called the Nintendo Entertainment System. They also released Super Mario Brothers, a game based off the jumping plumber in Donkey Kong. Nintendo’s popularity skyrocketed; the NES is a huge hit. From 1986 to 1992, Nintendo released more games and two new systems: the Game Boy and the 16-bit Super Nintendo. Their popularity wasn’t challenged until 1992, when Sega released their own entertainment system, the Sega Genesis. Nintendo and Sega continued to battle it out until 1996, when Nintendo released the 3-D platform N64. This started a new battle — but not between Nintendo and Sega.

Nintendo Versus Sony

After Nintendo released the N64 in 1996, Nintendo faced a new rival — the Sony Playstation. The Sony Playstation had one advantage over Nintendo, and that was the Final Fantasy series. The first Final Fantasy released was Final Fantasy 7, which is still hugely popular today. Nintendo battled Sony by continuing their Super Mario Brothers line, releasing Super Mario 64, Super Smash Brothers, and a different game called Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. By this time, video game programming became an actual major in some colleges. Nintendo and Sony continued to battle it out until 2007.

Wii Versus PS3

In 2007, Nintendo and Sony both agreed they need to revamp the video gaming industry. Sony responded by releasing the PlayStation 3, which acted as a video game console and a DVD player. Nintendo took a more innovative approach, releasing the Wii. Wii wasn’t like anything else on the market because it featured sensor technology, something found in their original NES. Nintendo replaced controllers with remotes, a controversial move that paid off. The Wii is the most popular console on the market right now, and so is the unlimited potential in this video gaming industry.

Gamers, what you should know: The exponential growth in the gaming industry will continue to skyrocket, as the popularity of gaming has become imbedded in our culture and lifestyle. With gaming companies consistently seeking out new talent, whether in design or programming, there is a high demand for skilled, talented individuals in the gaming industry. Learn about some of the opportunities for earning a game design or development degree - it may just be perfect for you. Gaming is one of the few industries that easily meld entertainment passion and a lucrative, in-demand career.

Go for the Wii with Your TV

You can’t simply have the Wii all to yourself literally—you have to make use of it. But then, how? One of the best ways is to connect it to an output device, preferably a TV.

Normally, when you’re going to purchase a Wii, also included in the package is a multi-out plug for AV connection. It’s highly necessary so you can connect your consoles not only to televisions but to VCRs as well. How can you check if your TV can connect to your Nintendo Wii? The best technique is to look at the back of your TV. If you will notice some colored sockets with an “Input” label, then you know that you can do appropriate connections. The same strategy can be used when it comes to your VCR.

More Tips for Your TV Connection

There are a number of things that can help you out when you’re trying to connect your Wii to your TV:

- The AV inputs are usually round sockets made of metal.
- They come in three types of colors, such as white, yellow, and red. The red color is for right audio input while the white one is for mono sound or left audio input. The yellow, meanwhile, is for the video input. There are a number of televisions, however, that only have one audio input.
- Spot the one that is marked A/V In. Don’t try to connect your Wii to anything with a label “Out,” or else, it won’t function at all.
- Use the color codes when you’re going to insert the plugs found in your Wii A/V cable. If there are no labels, get your television manual. Usually, they are well identified there.
- If the cables are already inserted in their proper places and you have already turned on the Wii console, you should locate the Input Select of your TV. This way, you can start viewing or selecting your favorite game. You can make use of a TV remote control for it, or you can simply manipulate the front panel located in the television. Press the button for TV/Video. If there are many input channels, just continue pressing the button until you can find the Wii console display.

For Your Computer Monitors

There are a number of people who make use of computer monitors rather than their television when you’re going to play Nintendo Wii. However, this is going to be initially difficult as home consoles of Nintendo are only meant to be used in VCRs and home televisions—this, of course, with the help of RF or A/V connectors. Since monitors of your PC don’t have any of these, you need to look for alternatives. One of these is through the use of a PC TV card. This is when you insert a TV card inside your PC so you can connect the console to the card. However, you should take note that you may not get the right image quality you’re looking for in your Wii.

Is the Wii Truly a Next-generation Console?

There’s a lot of buzz going on whether the newest addition to the family of consoles, Nintendo Wii, is going to topple over its other competitors, and now is the right time to set the record straight: is the Wii truly the next-generation console?

What Optimistics Say

There are a number of people who have believed that the Wii console is going to totally change the way the world will view consoles. In fact, it’s going to be the leading brand in the coming generations. For its other rivals, including Xbox 360 of Microsoft and Playstation 3 of Sony, they are only improvements of their predecessors. And when you speak about technology, a mere improvisation doesn’t sit really well. Positive critics think that Nintendo attempted to deviate from the norms of gaming consoles, and they have succeeded. It may never have the most perfect graphics, but it has captured a whole new demographics. Its coming into the market is more than enough to say that there can still be more room for innovation, even when it comes to handheld devices.
What Pessemistics Say
If there are praisers, then definitely there are a few who think that Wii needs a little more boost especially in its presentation and technical department. For one, the graphics are not that impressive and as comparable as those of Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. There’s also the problem of imprecision. The cursor can just suddenly disappear off the screen. It doesn’t help either that they are a number of franchises that are trying to ride on its fame, only to further pull Wii consoles down.
Wii can also be very much tiring for the arms. This is because you definitely have to perform the motions in order for you to complete the game. Just imagine, after a half hour of playing tennis in Wii Sports, you can surely get sore arms. On the contrary, a number of health enthusiasts believe that it can help them lose a great amount of weight.
PC Remains the Best

Those who have been constantly following the trends and evolution of gaming consoles think that PC games will soon die its natural death. However, this may not likely so. This is because there are still some players who would rather do some clicking on their mouse and face their PC than swing those Wii controllers or touch on the D-pad. Mouse remains one of the easy-to-control devices in the world.

There are always both the good and bad sides of things. The same opinion can be shared on the Wii console. Though it has garnered recognition left and right and has increased the sales of Nintendo in all corners of the world. Nevertheless, there is still enough space to improve.

Nintendo Wii therefore is a revolutionary console-gaming device, and it will soon set a new trend in the future. For this fact alone, there’s a huge possibility that it can be crowned as the next-generation console. But stepping up should always remain the name of the game.
