Is the Wii Truly a Next-generation Console?

There’s a lot of buzz going on whether the newest addition to the family of consoles, Nintendo Wii, is going to topple over its other competitors, and now is the right time to set the record straight: is the Wii truly the next-generation console?

What Optimistics Say

There are a number of people who have believed that the Wii console is going to totally change the way the world will view consoles. In fact, it’s going to be the leading brand in the coming generations. For its other rivals, including Xbox 360 of Microsoft and Playstation 3 of Sony, they are only improvements of their predecessors. And when you speak about technology, a mere improvisation doesn’t sit really well. Positive critics think that Nintendo attempted to deviate from the norms of gaming consoles, and they have succeeded. It may never have the most perfect graphics, but it has captured a whole new demographics. Its coming into the market is more than enough to say that there can still be more room for innovation, even when it comes to handheld devices.
What Pessemistics Say
If there are praisers, then definitely there are a few who think that Wii needs a little more boost especially in its presentation and technical department. For one, the graphics are not that impressive and as comparable as those of Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. There’s also the problem of imprecision. The cursor can just suddenly disappear off the screen. It doesn’t help either that they are a number of franchises that are trying to ride on its fame, only to further pull Wii consoles down.
Wii can also be very much tiring for the arms. This is because you definitely have to perform the motions in order for you to complete the game. Just imagine, after a half hour of playing tennis in Wii Sports, you can surely get sore arms. On the contrary, a number of health enthusiasts believe that it can help them lose a great amount of weight.
PC Remains the Best

Those who have been constantly following the trends and evolution of gaming consoles think that PC games will soon die its natural death. However, this may not likely so. This is because there are still some players who would rather do some clicking on their mouse and face their PC than swing those Wii controllers or touch on the D-pad. Mouse remains one of the easy-to-control devices in the world.

There are always both the good and bad sides of things. The same opinion can be shared on the Wii console. Though it has garnered recognition left and right and has increased the sales of Nintendo in all corners of the world. Nevertheless, there is still enough space to improve.

Nintendo Wii therefore is a revolutionary console-gaming device, and it will soon set a new trend in the future. For this fact alone, there’s a huge possibility that it can be crowned as the next-generation console. But stepping up should always remain the name of the game.
